Sign new ship order again
On September 15, DSIC Industry Co., Ltd.(DSIC) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited(CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd.(CSTC) and China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. (CMES) signed a new order for 306,000dwt methanol powered intelligent VLCC.
Wang Yongxin, secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of CMES, Wu Aijun, deputy general manager of CSTC, Yang Zhizhong, He Xu, leaders of DSIC and directors of relevant departments attended the ceremony. This is another new breakthrough for DSIC in green and intelligent shipbuilding following the successful delivery of LNG powered VLCC in 2022 and the operational green ecological VLCC in 2023.
DSIC has national level technology center, with strong research and development, design, and construction capabilities for civilian ships. It has independently developed and designed many international advanced marine products, especially the 300,000dwt VLCC, which is which is famous at home and abroad. It not only has rich experience in research and development, design, and construction, but also has excellent performance and outstanding quality. Since the delivery of the first VLCC in China in 2002, DSIC has undertaken a total of 120 ships in the past 20 years. In 2021, it was selected as the single champion in manufacturing industry by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China.
Guided by scientific and technological innovation and led by green, intelligent and sustainable development, DSIC has made many world-leading achievements in the field of low-carbon and zero-carbon ship type research and development and intelligent technology research and application for many years, and has been selected as one of the Top 10 Marine Progresses of China in 2019 and Top 10 Famous Ships of the World in 2022. DSIC has won the Gold Medal of China Excellent Industrial Design Award and the First Prize of CSSC Science and Technology Progress Award one after another.
CMES is an important strategic partner of DSIC. The two sides have successfully cooperated on projects such as 300,000dwt VLCC, 110,000dwt crude oil tanker, and 175,000m3 LNG carrier. The signing of the new order for methanol powered intelligent VLCC is vivid practice of the two central enterprises adhering to the dual-carbon strategy and beneficial exploration to promote green and low-carbon transformation.
This ship is the first worldwide methanol powered VLCC, is the latest eighth generation VLCC independently developed by DSIC, with overall length of about 333 meters and breadth of 60 meters. With the application of the latest ship design, its comprehensive performance is even better, and it can quickly navigate the Straits of Malacca, which shorten the operation cycle and improve the ship operation efficiency effectively. The ship is powered by green methanol, it is designed to meet the requirements of the latest international conventions, norms and major oil companies, and the energy efficiency design index of the ship has reached EEDI Phase III standard in advance. Meanwhile, the ship will be equipped with intelligent platforms, intelligent liquid cargo control system (DS-iCargo) and other intelligent applications independently developed in China. Through the continuous expansion of this VLCC ship type in green and intelligent field, DSIC will strongly promote the progress of green and intelligent technology and the sustainable development of Chinese shipbuilding industry. |
