| On September 22, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.(DSIC) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation successfully launched No. 103 methanol-powered smart VLCC for China Merchants Energy Shipping ahead of schedule. This vessel is the eighth generation VLCC independently developed by DSIC. It is approximately 333 meters in length and 60 meters in width, capable of carrying about 2.1 million barrels of crude oil. Adhering to “green, eco-friendly, intelligent, and safe”design philosophy, it features methanol dual-fuel main engines equipped with main engine EGR, generator SCR denitrification systems, and open desulfurization scrubbers. This configuration fully complies with the latest environmental emission standards while maximizing energy efficiency and economic performance. Incorporating the latest hull design for superior overall performance, the vessel integrates intelligent systems including smart energy efficiency, smart liquid cargo management, smart operation and maintenance, and smart ship-based platforms to further enhance operational efficiency and safety. Throughout shipbuilding, the project team and Final Assembly Division II maintained unified objectives and seamless coordination, embedding lean management principles throughout all operational phases. Through scientific planning and efficient execution, the team completed critical tasks during the assembly phase: emergency generator load acceptance testing; methanol tank strength testing during the half-hull floating stage; and pre-launch commissioning of air compressors, generator load acceptance, boiler ignition, superstructure lighting, signal lamp illumination, and methanol tank special coating. These achievements laid the foundation for comprehensive underwater commissioning. |
