(Haixin Steel Information Net)DSIC Is About to Start an Official Demolition

It is said that the construction of DSIC modernized ship repair and demolition base with a total investment of 3.2 billion yuan is drawing to a close, about to receive the business concerned. There is only the last infrastructural project left nowadays-the central work platform under tight concreting, for the base located in Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone, where two 300k DWT- and 150k DWT-class large docks were all completed while the major production facilities like the hull workshop, dock-repair workshop and machinery & electric comprehensive workshop already finished up to now.

As introduced, with the continuous contraction of global shipping market, plenty of shipowners prefer repairing the old ship instead of building the new one so as to reduce the cost. Facing this market demand, DSIC has introduced the business of ship repair and demolition positively, achieving the recycle of scrap steel by a cooperation with Ansteel Group. This ship repair and demolition base is supposed to put into production in the end of this year, with an annual repair capacity of 86 vessels in various types from 50k DWT to 300k DWT, annual conversion of three 300k DWT-class ships and annual demoliton of 760k light tons of scrap ships. As the infrastructural project is drawing to a close, the business for ship repair and demolition is delivering to door successively, where a 5k DWT scrap bulk carrier is about to conduct a green demolition.

The shipping company and demolition company is a project of ship repair, conversion and demolition industrial base, co-funded by 3 shareholders, namely DSIC, Singapore-based PIL and Ansteel Group. The total investment of ship repair project is about 2 billion yuan, planning to put into trial production in April 2012, where there are advanced production facilities with two newly built docks for ship repair, among which, one is 300k DWT class and the other is 150k DWT class, together with 5 berths, including 300k DWT class, 200k DWT class, 150k DWT class and 70k DWT class, and a quay of 2210m. Also, there are newly built production facilities like hull workshop, dock-repair workshop and machinery & electric comprehensive workshop and pipe fabrication workshop, office building, production auxiliary building, production support of utility power and fire fighting and enviromental protection, and public utility, involved in the repair and conversion for large ships, specialized ships and offshore engineering in various types with high tech and high value added, where the target ships to be repaired in the product positioning are VLOC, VLCC, large container ship, LNG, LPG, chemical tanker, ro-ro ship, Suezmax and Aframax oil tanker, Capesize and Panamax bulk carrier as well as other medium and small-sized ships in various types.

This green demolition project covers an area of about 460,000 square meters, with a total investment of 0.9 billion yuan, where there are a demolition quay of 449.6m and a bulkhead of 1206m, together with the production facilities like the scrap site, pile stock and cutting workshop, support facilities for power supply and utility as well as those for fire fighting and environmental protection. Simutaneously, the 300k DWT class and 200k DWT class drydocks shall be shared with DSIC Shipping Company to conduct the demolition of scrap ships.
